Packaged Living & Hammerson’s plans are approved for new 300-unit scheme on the former Debenhams site in Leicester

Packaged Living alongside Hammerson are delighted to announce that their plans to redevelop the former Debenhams store at Highcross, St Peters Lane have been approved by Leicester City Council. The plans will deliver high-quality, homes-for-rental in the heart of the city centre, close to transport connections and all of the retail, dining and leisure amenities Leicester has to offer.

The development, designed by CRTKL, will see the former department store transformed into new high-quality homes for local residents, as well as providing major improvements to enliven East Bond Street, where the entrance will be located. On completion, the scheme will provide over 300 new homes and an improved public realm for the city alongside bespoke resident amenities including a roof garden. Sitting at the heart of the community, residents will be minutes from the city’s strong line-up of cultural and commercial attractions and public transport links.

Mark Woodrow, Joint Managing Director at Packaged Living said, “We are really pleased that our plans have been approved by Leicester City Council. St Peter’s Lane is the result of Hammerson and Packaged Living’s shared vision to deliver high quality and sustainable rental homes within mixed-use communities. We are delighted to be working with Hammerson, bringing our investment, development and operational experience in the build-to-rent sector to support the re-purposing and evolution of this excellently located asset.”

A spokesperson for Hammerson commented, “We have worked closely with council officers to ensure the proposals responded to local context, creating active frontage and improving public realm on East Bond Street.”
